WoW Paladin Guide

Ultimate WoW Guide

Overview:

For those who want a melee character that has good healing and utility abilities, a paladin might be a good choice. Paladins are a defensive class that has a lot of healing power and is very good at tanking. They can wear any type of armor, and they can use swords, maces, polearms, and axes, including the two-handed varieties. They can’t dual wield, but they can use shields. Paladins don’t really have any ranged abilities and can’t use ranged weapons, so they are mainly useful as melee fighters. The races that can be paladins are blood elf, draenei, dwarf, or human.

They are very hard to kill due to their ability to take abuse and to heal themselves, so they are great for PvP. Those who want to focus on inflicting very high levels of damage, or who want to have a wide range of healing spells available to them are better off with other characters since this class is more of a hybrid.

Special Abilities:

The paladin has a lot of special abilities. They can use auras to increase the abilities of the other players in their group within a certain distance. They can cast blessings and greater blessings on friendly players, and they can use seals on themselves. There are also a number of hands that they can use, such as the hand of freedom, hand of protection, hand of sacrifice and hand of salvation. They also have special abilities to fight the undead and demons.

Talents: Holy, Protection, and Retribution

Holy Paladin

The holy talent tree focuses a lot on healing and cleansing abilities. There are also ways to boost mana and to decrease casting time. Illumination, divine favor, holy shock, flash of light, infusion of light, and blessing of kings are all very useful talents to obtain.

Protection Paladin

The protection talent tree focuses on tanking and leading groups. They work toward improving damage mitigation, damage return, and defense. Paladins specializing in this talent tree mainly use one-handed weapons. The area of effect tanking provided by these paladins helps to keep the attention and the damage caused by enemies focused on them and away from more vulnerable allies. Some of the more useful talents include consecration, hammer of the righteous, blessing of sanctuary, holy shield, and improved judgments.

Retribution Paladin

The retribution talent tree is focused on causing damage, holy damage and damage avoidance. Retribution paladins like to use two-handed weapons. Repentance, heart of the crusader, seal of the martyr, seal of blood, sheath of light, swift retribution, crusader strike, and divine storm can all be very useful to those who choose this talent tree. This should be your choice as the best paladin leveling spec.

Leveling Tips:

Much like druids, paladins are one of the few classes that can choose between DPS, healing, and tanking. This makes a paladin very easy to level because you have so many options to choose from. As you probably already know, you will need to choose a healing spec or tanking spec to level the fastest.

The best way to level now days is to enter random dungeons. Not only do you get insane experience from killing in dungeons but you also get an experience bonus for completing the dungeon as well as a rare piece of equipment. Even if you plan on switching to DPS spec at level 80 you should level your paladin in one of the tanking of healing specs.

Healing with a paladin can be a bit difficult for a new player. The problem with paladin heals is that they are mainly single target heals. Where some classes get multi-target heals, paladins get very nice one target heals. Another thing that paladins will have to work on is mana conservation. As a healer, paladins tend to burn through mana fairly quickly.

Using the right aura, paladin tanking is a bit easier than trying to learn to heal with a paladin. Paladins also get an instant cast area of effect damage spell which helps to grab aggro quickly even in large groups of mobs. Paladin tanks also find it very easy to solo quests. Often times you may get board doing dungeon runs over and over. The protection spec for paladins is an all around great spec for leveling in.

If you plan on leveling DPS you may want to consider getting some of the protection spec talents as well. These will help you mitigate some of the damage done while soloing. You will find your wait times for dungeons to be pretty long compared to choosing to heal or tank but it can be done. As a DPS paladin you will want to look for gear which has intelligence and stamina. This will insure that you do not run out of mana before a fight is finished and that you have enough health to take some serious damage.
