WoW Rogue Guide

Ultimate WoW Guide

Overview:

A rogue can be a very powerful character, and very fun to play if you like to sneak around and do a lot of damage. This class can only wear cloth or leather armor, but they have a number of different abilities that help to make up for this. Disadvantages of this class include the fact that they have no party buffs or healing ability available to them. The weapons that a rogue can use include bows, crossbows, daggers, fist weapons, guns, maces, and swords.

All races except for the tauren and draenei can be rogues, as the methods used by rogues are not agreeable to these races and hooves make it too difficult to be stealthy ;p

Special Abilities:

Stealth is one of the main special abilities of the rogue. This allows them to sneak up on the enemy and deal massive backstabbing damage or scout out locations. They are also able to dual wield, which helps to make up for the fact that they can’t use a shield or two-handed weapons. Another useful ability is the ability to use poisons, which they often use on their weapons to make them even more effective. Other abilities include lock picking, stuns, incapacitates, disorients, ignore armor spells to make their weapons more effective against heavily armed opponents, and spells to help them flee by making them faster or making them disappear.

Talents: Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety

Assassination Rogue

This talent tree focuses on doing as much burst damage as possible as quickly as possible. Usually this is done through the use of a combination of dagger and poison. The skills involved make your poison more effective and help you to get more combo points. You also get to use more finishing moves. You can level more quickly if you follow the combat school up to level 50 before switching to this build. Useful talents include envenom, mutilate, improved poisons, vile poisons, and dual wield specialization.

Combat Rogue

The combat rogue is focused on creating sustained DPS over the course of the confrontation. Most commonly this is done using dual swords, though maces and fist weapons could be used with slightly more difficulty since they aren’t as available in the early levels of the game. This build is good for leveling, solo play, raids, and PvP. You don’t worry about using stealth quite so much and focus more on just hacking at your opponents and moving quickly from one to another as you dispatch them. The best talents include dual wield specialization, sinister strike, improved slice and dice, blade fury, blade twisting, and surprise attacks.

Subtlety Rogue

The talents of the subtlety rogue focus on using speed and stealth. They help you to keep hidden and escape when necessary. It is a good talent for PvP and battleground situations, but not that great for leveling, so many people respec once they get to the upper levels. Choose the honor among thieves, premeditation, preparation, initiative, serrated blades, deadliness, shadowstep and elusiveness talents.
