WoW Warrior Guide

Ultimate WoW Guide

Overview:

If you want the best class available for melee tanking, you should choose the warrior. This class does best in cases of close combat. They can play either an offensive role dealing large amounts of damage or a more defensive role tanking to keep their allies from harm, or they can play a role that is a combination of both these tasks. Each blow they either deal or receive gives them more rage to use to fuel their attacks, and they do well fighting many opponents at the same time.

As a class, warriors have some of the most options when it comes to play styles. They have more options for weapons and armor than all of the other classes. Warriors are allowed to use shields and almost all weapons (except for idols, librams, sigils, totems, and wands), and once they reach level 40 they can access plate armor, making it so that they have their choice of any type of armor. Once they reach level 20 they also have the choice of dual wielding.

Rage

The amount of Rage a warrior has determines what they can do, unlike the other melee classes. Taking hits in combat, drinking rage potions, dealing damage, or using certain other abilities will increase the amount of rage available to a warrior. There are also a number of different talents available to the warrior for increasing the amount of rage that is generated through these methods. Rage works like mana does among some of the other classes, since a warrior needs to have a certain level of rage before he can activate most of his abilities. Longer battles help to accumulate more rage since combat and other rage-generating abilities need to be used in order to get more rage. An enemy that isn’t very strong can be used to help a warrior top-off his rage bar before he moves on to fight a stronger foe. A full rage bar makes it possible for a warrior to quickly deal a lot of damage.

Combat Stances: Battle, Defensive, and Berserker

Different stances are available for different purposes. A warrior’s talents will help to determine which of the available battle stances he will use in each different situation.  All warriors start out using battle stance, which has both offensive and defensive abilities. Defensive stance is best to use when playing the role of the main tank since it is more defensive oriented and has few offensive moves to cause damage. When there is already another tank in the group and you need as much DPS as possible berserker stance is a good choice. It involves full on attack while taking almost no steps to protect the warrior’s health.

Talent Trees: Arms, Fury, and Protection

Arms Warrior

The abilities of the arms talent tree focus most on abilities using two-handed weapon burst damage combined with lots of bleeding damage. These talents allow them to generate and effectively use high levels of rage as well as make the healing abilities of their enemies less effective.

Fury Warrior

The abilities of the fury talent tree are mainly focused on offense, allowing fury warriors to cause a lot of DPS while dual wielding. They can cause large amounts of damage and have very reliable rage generation capabilities, though they do require a lot more gear than warriors in other talent trees. In a group or raid situation all they are really good for is fighting through mobs as quickly as possible.

Protection Warrior

Protection warriors usually use one-handed weapons and shields. This tree improves the warriors chances of survival as well as their offensive skills, making them a real threat through increasing their aggro buildup.
